DNA Analysis of Bacterial Pathogens

The aim of periodontitis treatment is to eliminate or at least reduce the amount of periodontal pathogenic bacteria present. For this reason, the layer of bacterial pathogens is mechanically removed from the teeth using dental hygiene instruments and equipment. However, when certain particularly harmful bacterial strains are present, this approach may not be sufficient. The bacteria can penetrate deeper into the periodontal pocket and surrounding tissues, where they can no longer be removed mechanically. They remain in the periodontal pocket, multiply rapidly and the inflammatory process continues despite thorough treatment. In such cases, antibiotic treatment may be necessary to eliminate the bacteria and stop the progression of periodontitis.

Taking a sample from the periodontal pocket is quick and painless.
